The Korean Consulate General Says:

I CAN GO!!!!!!!!

Webcam interview

I have an interview with the Korean Consulate General in Chicago today at 2 pm. This is the final thing that I have to do before I can go to Korea. If all goes well I'll just have to pack.

I got super depressed yesterday while I was checking on express at Hy-Vee. This girl I graduated with came through my line. She's working for this really good Advertising Agency here in Kansas City. I was totally embarrassed that she saw me. I know that I'm only working there because I'm trying to go to Korea but it's still embarrassing. Oh well, I'm leaving in 22 days.

August 21st

They gave me my flight schedule last night. I leave August 21st at 8:03 AM on United Airline (I think) and arrive in Chicago at 9:30 AM. Then I have a 3 and a half hour lay over (which will be helpful because customs can take awhile) and leave for Korea at 1:30 PM arriving at Incheon Airport on August 22nd at 4:50 PM .

I've finally sent off my stuff to the Korean Consulate in Chicago. Yet another expensive endeavor. $45 for the E2 application fee that I had to get a money order for. Then $27 to send it off. I also had to include a self addressed FedEx envelope that they'll charge me for later to get my passport back. I'm going to be broke trying to get to Korea!

It's crazy how real this is becoming. I know I talk about it all the time but I remember when this was just a random thought that I had had one day. To see it come to life is just so weird to me.

E2 Visa Confirmation Number

Like the title says I got my confirmation number finally. I also, for the first time, got to read an email from the director at the school. I've been pretty lazy lately. I really don't want to have to get more information together to send it off to Chicago but I must. I'll do this on Sunday when I get back.

Oh yeah I'm going to Maryville for the weekend for my final goodbye. Well really I think only 2 people from there care that I am leaving but I figured it would be a good time none the less.

I'm seeing the new Batman movie tonight! All sorts of exciting. Other then that it's been pretty uneventful around here.

Waiting

Well they received my documents on July 7th and now I am waiting for them to process all of them and send me my E2 Visa confirmation number. After that I will send off another set of required documents to the Korean Embassy in Chicago which will take at least a week to process and get back. Then I wait for my ticket and then I'm off.

I officially put in my two weeks at Hy-Vee making my last day July 31st. I realize that that is a good 17+ days before I leave but I figured I'd give myself a nice long break before I jump into a new country and my first full time job ever.

Kim wants to throw me a going away party which will roughly be around August 16th since August 17th is my estimated departure date. Hopefully people will be able to make it. How depressing would it be to have a going away party and barely anyone show up.

0.35 lbs

Is how much all of my documents weighed when I mailed it off to South Korea. o.35 lbs equaled out of be $60.03. Plus the $1.87 I had to pay for some pictures and $0.43 I paid for copies. Estimated arrival date is July 7th.

In other news I have been Hy-vee's slave lately. Not only do I do customer service, which was what I was originally hired back for, I cashier, work in the deli, pay station, floral and gas station. I seriously feel that they should pay me more since I am trained in 6 different departments but like I'll get my way.

Speaking of pay, pay day is this Friday! I desperately need the money because I'm a super broke.

Oh and last of the randomness my friend Nina got engaged a couple of days ago. She wants to get married next September but also wants me to be a bridesmaid. I find this slightly impossible since I won't even be back in the States until late August. I won't have time to get a dress or help or anything. But hey I'm always up for a challenge.

Congrats Nina!
